Editorial Assistant (2 positions)
Lolwe is looking for two editorial assistants to help with the day to day running of the literary magazine. In this role, you will be responsible for handling the work submitted to the magazine and
The duties include:
- Reading through submissions (the slush pile) and helping the guest editors with the selections.
- Proofreading and fact checking work before publication.
- Assistance with copyediting in certain instances.
- Liaising with the Editor-in-Chief to ensure that the publication schedule is updated.
No prior editorial experience is required as training will be offered. Just bring your curiosity and willingness to learn. However, basic familiarity with Microsoft Office Word is necessary to the performance of the role.
At the moment, Lolwe has no funding and is unable to make a commitment to the payment of a stipend for this position. However, the role will be flexible and will require at most 6 hours of your week, leaving you free to pursue other income-generating activities.
Editorial Intern (1 position)
We are also looking for an editorial intern to be a part of the team. This role requires someone who has interest in editing and would like to learn about the workings of a literary journal. The internship will last for a period of 6 months after which the person may be moved to the position of an editorial assistant depending on the need and availability of such a position.
- Sorting and reading through submissions.
- Formatting work in preparation for editing.
The editorial intern position has no requirements. All training will be provided during the course of the internship, and it is expected that the intern will gain knowledge of the editorial process by the end of the internship..
