Bird Lake
Fabrice Mbonankira
Like all the lakes in northern Burundi, Lake Rwihinda, nicknamed “Bird Lake”, has seen its environment greatly disturbed by human activities. Residents, who run after their food survival, have acted on the delicate ecological balances, and species have disappeared, no longer finding their familiar habitat.

Fabrice Mbonankira is a storyteller and photographer from Burundi. Introduced to photography by his older brother, he began his creative journey after receiving training in storytelling and conceptualization in photography (2019). His artistic practice is also influenced by the experience of living with the stigma inflicted by the war that Burundi experienced in 1993. Through the art of photography, Fabrice aspires to contribute to the improvement of the well-being of the people and communities he meets.
